PE is a class where participation, sportsmanship and effort are the main factors by which a grade will be earned. I am a firm believer that students are not given a grade, but they earn their grade. Skill is the final factor that comes into place for their grade in PE. By the end of their school year, I hope that a student is able to improve on their overall athletic skills and body movement and coordination. Testing occurs three times per year. They are able to set a benchmark at the first testing, and then they are expected to meet or beat their score on the second and third testing periods. Testing occurs in August, December and April.
Expectations
My goal is for students to be able to leave PE knowing the importance of physical activity, lifetime skills and healthy living choices. Elementary students at Centura Public Schools will have the opportunity to have PE twice a week and then every other Friday. Activities will be, but not limited to: team activities, fitness testing, gross motor skills, indoor/outdoor activities, track meet preparation, large/small group activities, and knowledge of different sporting units.
Elementary students are encouraged to have running/tennis shoes everyday at PE. During the first/fourth quarter it is suggested that shorts or sports clothes are worn, and then during the 2/3 quarter sweat pants or winter athletic wear is suggested.
**Music and Movement is on hold for now due to COVID restrictions and social distancing for this class**
Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Mrs. Feeney and Mrs. Killinger are joining forces to have music and movement time every Friday with these grades. During this time your student will start in the Music room and enjoy a song that gets their voices and bodies moving with Mrs. Killinger, after their song time they will be introduced to a new book that deals with issues and topics that primary grades are learning in school. After this, the students will head to the gym with Mrs. Feeney and use their movement skills they have learned in the music room, or even from the book and incorporate those into gym time.
